When mom decides to decorate her future baby's room herself, she is also strengthening the emotional bonds between them. However, before getting started, she should consider several aspects to ensure the result is perfect.

Choosing the baby's room

It is usually easy to determine which room in the house will be the baby's room, either because the number of rooms is limited or because that was the intended use from the outset. Nevertheless, whatever criteria you use to make your choice, it should be close to the parents' bedroom. In addition, the size and light must be adequate, assuming that the child will be able to stay there for many years without having to make structural changes.

Style of the baby's room

Once you have decided where in the house the little one will belong, you need to start thinking about its style: Provençal, romantic, classic, modern, cheerful, vintage, sporty... Which one will suit the baby best?

Choosing the color of the walls

The colors of the room will depend on the style you choose. For a classic room, beige and white tones are perfect. On the other hand, if you prefer to convey cheerfulness, you can opt for more colorful shades. Romantic rooms will combine valances and ornaments, while the sporty style will be more relaxed. But above all, don't forget that your baby needs walls that evoke calm and well-being.

The baby's crib

The crib is essential for the baby's well-being, as they will spend many hours sleeping in it. As such, it must be comfortable and safe, as well as having a rail with a maximum distance of 6.5 cm between bars (European Law EN 716/95). Not forgetting that the height of the bars from the mattress must be at least 60 cm.

Changing table and bathtub

The changing table is one of the essential items in the baby's room. As such, it is advisable to have a chest of drawers with everything you need to make changing your baby easier. The bathtub is an optional item in the room.

Lighting and curtains

In addition to the natural light that should fill the room (which can be regulated with curtains made of materials that do not attract too much dust) and the conventional ceiling light, a lamp that provides a softer light should be included. This will be ideal for use during moments of rest and relaxation: when the baby wakes up at night or to help them fall asleep when they go to bed.

The mattress for the baby's crib

There are different materials available for mattresses. The most recommended are latex, which are hygienic and adapt to the baby's body, and coconut fiber, which prevents moisture accumulation. The mattress must be the exact size to fit the bed. In addition, a protective cover made of fabric or absorbent cellulose should be placed between the mattress cover and the cotton sheets.

Safety and technology for the baby

The environment where your baby will grow up should be comfortable and pleasant, but above all, it should be an environment where they feel protected. To achieve this, furniture should have rounded corners, electrical outlets should be protected, and, very importantly, you should avoid items that can easily break and hurt your child. You can also include other items that protect their safety, such as surveillance cameras or intercoms, which allow you to watch your baby without constantly entering the room.
