Yesterday, May 20, Pampilhosa da Serra hosted the 2nd Senior Meeting of the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Community (CIM RC), which brought together more than 1,100 seniors from the 19 municipalities that make up the Community, who showed that “growing old can (and should!) be synonymous with vitality, sharing and well-being”. The Municipality of Figueira da Foz was represented by a group of students from the Senior University, who attended at the invitation of the municipality.

Jorge Custódio, Mayor of Pampilhosa da Serra, expressed his “tremendous pride in welcoming so many friends to our home” and stressed that “these moments are fundamental for dignified, active and inclusive ageing”.

The meeting included various activities: a parade; a human flag of Europe, in a creative and inclusive celebration of Europe Day, which takes place on May 9; a dynamic walk along the River Beach; a shared picnic-style lunch, which allowed all the participants to socialize and, finally, a mountain festival, where there was plenty of popular music, dancing and fun.

Alexandra Tomé, Deputy Mayor of Pampilhosa da Serra, stressed at the closing ceremony that the initiative had left everyone “with their hearts full” and that the seniors had given “a lesson in joy, commitment and that there is no age to be happy”.

The mayor also thanked “all the municipalities, technicians, institutions and partners” who, with “dedication and care”, made the event a real success.
